Taking Orders ~ CHICKS ~ Black Stars & Heritage Rhode Island Reds - $5 (Hamilton, MT)

Taking chick orders for 2026 ~ Hatching Weekly Starting in February. Chicks are locally bred on our farm in Hamilton, MT.
Black Star Chicks:
~ Females, $6.00 ea.
~ Males, $1.00 ea. (or take the whole week's hatch of males for $0.75 ea.)
~ Hatching Eggs, $2.00 ea./$24.00 dozen.
The classic Black Star with a little more size and flash. Hens are outstanding layers of large to extra-large brown eggs. They have docile and friendly personalities. They are vigorous and hardy. Hens range from solid iridescent black to glossy black with extensive gold flecking around the neck.
Male Black Stars are black-and-white barred with a gold sheen. Males make good heritage meat birds, dressing out at around 4 to 4 1/2 lbs. at 5 months old when properly fed.
Heritage Rhode Island Red Chicks, $5.00 ea.

Rhode Island Reds are an old homestead standby and a great choice for a sustainable farm flock. Hens are renown as excellent layers of large to extra-large brown eggs. Young roosters dress out at around 5 lbs. at 5 months old when properly fed. Our line of Rhode Island Reds are prolific layers, hardy, vigorous, and friendly. We breed them to have gentle, easy-to-handle personalities. These are true dual-purpose chickens that meet the correct weight requirements for the breed and are much larger and better filled out than most RIRs available from the commercial hatcheries. How to Place an Order:
Contact us and let us know how many chicks of which breed you would like to order and what time of the year you would like to get them. We will confirm a hatch date that works for you. Hatches take place each Thursday for pick up on Friday or Saturday. We require a 1/2 deposit at the time of order to finalize orders. Chicks are available for pick up on our farm by the customer. We also work with a delivery service who will deliver chicks and eggs to fixed addresses between Darby and Missoula for an additional delivery fee. We can ship hatching eggs anywhere in Montana via USPS Priority Mail. Please contact us for current delivery fees or shipping rates.
