First of all, a BIG Shout Out to ALL my customers. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
This is a rare 1960, and very hard-to-find paperback book.
A Manual for the Police Officer. How to recognize and handle abnormal people
by Robert A. Matthews M.D. and Loyd W. Rowland Ph.D.
Published by the National Association for Mental Health, Inc. copyright 1960 2nd printing.
72 numbered pages. Measures approx. 5"x7"
This booklet looks at the considerations for identifying the mentally ill and for handling violent and depressed persons and those suffering from physical illness or amnesia. Many of the problems which policemen might encounter in dealing with disturbed people are treated in this short basic manual. Individuals with special mental conditions are described -- the psychopath, the alcoholic, the drug addict, the sex offender, the mentally retarded adult, and the senile. The authors emphasize that most of the conditions are illnesses and should be dealt with in a careful and noncritical manner. Also included is a section on the police officer's personal problems which may result from the special stresses placed upon him because of the nature of his work. Although written specifically for the policeman, this publication might benefit any others whose work involves contact with abnormal personalities.
Condition good. Sturdy spine, No missing nor torn pages, No scribblings, No dog ears. A few faded stains; I did see 3 pages that contained some light red underlining...definitely nothing major. A pretty good copy for being so old.
