condition: good
make / manufacturer: Necchi
model name / number: Lelia 513
The Necchi Lelia is from the Supernova lineage of machines. Introduced in 1961 this unit is likely from '61 or '62 and is from the era when they were still manufactured in Pavia, Italy. The top and nose covers are injection molded, but the rest of the machine is metal. It is a straight stitch/zigzag machine with the addition of a built in buttonhole feature. It has the often elusive Magic Key for the buttonhole unit that can be removed and stowed away when not in use.
This machine had the buttonhole cam assembly removed and the internals were cleaned of all old grease on the gears for the zigzag and its roller bearings on its follower. Repacked with Teflon based synthetic lube and a light application of it to the gears. A new bobbin winder wheel is in place.
The original motor was damaged with its case cracked. I have fitted it with a NOS motor that had never been installed on anything. It has the extra wire for the two speed transformer that was optional on these machines. If a bed extension with the switch mounts and the accommodation for the transformer were found the machine could easily be upgraded, but it would then have a 16" bed. The motor is very fast and powerful as it is now running only in the single high speed mode.
It includes a nice selection of presser feet and attachments. There are extra needle plates for straight stitch only and double needle sewing, I have included the Necchi specific double needle. This is a standard high shank machine so there is a multitude of presser feet and attachments that can be easily obtained for it. The original carbon pile controller still works great.
The pictures show the sample straight and zigzag stitches I did along with three buttonholes and some wide satin stitches. Also shown is four layers of heavy upholstery vinyl I stitched with upholstery thread and four layers of heavy distressed denim stitched with denim jeans thread.
The portable case is in very good condition overall with some wear of the cover material at the edges and light staining. The latches and handle are still sound and present no worries for support in their function.
If you have an old Necchi in need of work, or is non-functioning for partial trade it may be considered.
